Knock on wood - Megan Wotherspoon will reach the finish line sometime tomorrow in her epic run from the top of Saskatchewan to the bottom.
The 38-year-old Saskatoon educator is scheduled to reach the Saskatchewan-Montana border crossing south of Val Marie on Thursday.
"I have 150kms left," said Megan from the roadside near Vanguard - a small village southwest of Moose Jaw on Tuesday morning. "It has been amazing."
Today will be Day 31 of the 1,500kms+ journey from Stony Rapids in far northern Saskatchewan (82kms south of the NWT border) to the US border crossing in the far south.
There were some early bumps in the road, including an unscheduled 3-day break and hospital visit for a pre-existing medical condition. But thanks to a small army of family and friends, she will become the first person to ever run the province - from top to bottom.
"I would say 50," said Megan when asked how many people have helped her - either as part of her roadside crew or joining to run or visiting her for moral support along the road.
As she finishes the final two days, Megan will continue to battle shin splints - which have hampered her for nearly a week. "I've had some low moments where the kilometres were slow, but forward is a pace," she quipped.
The ultra runner has adapted her initial plan of running 50kms a day to starting each day with two hours of walking before being able to run in the afternoon.
And if those low moments return in the final two days, she can focus on the incredible charitable success that has come from her journey. "I'm pretty grateful and humble," she continued. "I met my $15,000 fundraising goal for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada on the day we started (in late May)."
As of this morning, Megan's fundraising total had topped $34,000. Megan's mom passed away from Leukemia at age 38 - which was the driving force for why she decided to embark on this incredible journey this spring.
Now, she will see the finish line tomorrow with the Canadian border guards ready to welcome her. "They are pretty excited to have us (arrive)," exclaimed Megan.
