Thirteen Saskatchewan athletes are heading to South Korea for the World Masters Track & Field Championships.

"(It's) like the Olympics for athletes aged 35 to 100," said Saskatoon's Harvey Weber.

A stunning 7,476 participants from 106 different countries will be competing across 34 events from Aug. 22 to Sept. 3.

And while those numbers are eye-opening, so are the facts and figures around the travel logistics.

"Besides the competition itself, another big challenge is the long travel distance, which includes at least a 13-hour flight to Seoul and then a 300km train ride to Daegu," continued Weber.

The Saskatchewan athletes are: Sandi Arnason, Brent Craig, Colin Ellis, Chris Ford, Trevor Jacek, Iain McCormick, Doug McLaren, Teresa Saccucci, Kelly Silcox, Michael Taylor, Lynne Wawryk Epp, Harvey Weber and Gwyneth Woodson.

"Lynne and Gwyneth are both heading to Daegu as top contenders after breaking a number of Canadian records this season," added Weber.

Good luck to all of the Saskatchewan athletes and be careful in the South Korea heat. "The forecast during the competition says the humidex will be 50C," stated Weber.
